Local Breweries Collaborate on March Madness Inspired Beer
Hopping Gnome Brewing Company and Central Standard Brewing (CSB) have teamed up to brew a special beer, just in time for the NCAA’s March Madness tournament in Wichita, March 15th & 17th.
The beer, named Wicked Crossover, is a Wheat IPA.
“We all met up and wanted to incorporate wheat; we felt strongly about it being a Kansas collaboration. We used raw Kansas wheat from our home state. We’ve incorporated three varieties of wheat: raw, flaked, and malted,” said Ian Crane, Co-Founder, and Head Brewer at CSB.
“This beer hits all styles, it’s easy drinking but will still have a bit of a bitter flavor that appeals to IPA lovers. We’re not sure if anyone has done a Wheat IPA before,” said Torrey Lattin, Co-Owner, and Head Brewer at Hopping Gnome.
There will be tappings at both breweries to release the collaboration beer. First at CSB on March 13, and at Hopping Gnome on March 14. Both breweries will carry the limited run through the time of the tournament and until supplies run out.
According to Crane, the batch was nine barrels total. Which converts to roughly 1000 pints going to each brewery.
“We haven’t done a collaboration yet, and what’s a better time than to launch it during the tournament? We hope to draw a few people away from the hustle and bustle of the arena and downtown area and out into the rest of Wichita,” Said Lattin.
