Local Facial Hair Competition Will Benefit Homeless Veterans
The Wichita Beard and Mustache Club (WBMC) hosts the sixth annual beard and mustache competition, The Unshaven Duel for Veterans, at Bourbon Street Bar and Grille on April 8.
The event will benefit Passageways Living Center, an organization that strives to combat the issue of homelessness among veterans.
“This will be our first time doing a fundraiser for Passageways and for veterans,” said Andrew Bruso of WBMC. “What we’re hoping for with this competition is to help raise money for Passageways, awareness about the struggles Passageways deals with on a day-to-day basis and the issues of homelessness that veterans face.”
Participants will be judged on the length; thickness; uniformity; overall look; and in some categories, creativity of their facial hair. Competition categories will include Mustache, Mustache freestyle, partial, full beard under 6 inches, full beard 6-12 inches, full beard over 12 inches, beard freestyle, kids fake facial hair and women's fake facial hair.
Handmade plaques will be given to participants placing first through third in each category and to the participant named best of show. The event will also highlight giveaways and door prizes.
“We are super excited to be working with such dedicated people for such a great cause,” Tiffany Van Dolah of Bourbon Street Bar and Grille said.
The Unshaven Duel For Veterans competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. Registration will take place two hours prior, opening at 1 p.m. A $25 registration fee will be required. Bourbon Street Bar and Grille is located at 3863 S. Seneca.
