Fall in love with Love Letters.

Wichita Community Theatre is hosting a special one-night only Valentine’s Day performance of A. R. Gurney’s Love Letters featuring the husband and wife acting team of Bob and Dona Lancaster. Tickets are by donation and various
wines and desserts will be provided.

The show is comprised of messages exchanged over a lifetime of letters writing between two people, Andy and Melissa, who grew up together and then went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. Reading letters, notes, and cards which span1937-1984, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. Their story evokes memories of the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War Years, and on through the 60's and 70's.

This is the second time Bob has performed "Love Letters" opposite his wife. He also directed her with Phil Speary in a previous fund-raising performance of the play. This is the 4th time Dona has played Melissa and the second time performing it with Bob.

Dona Lancaster has been involved with Kansas theatre since 1984. Dona’s accomplishments include performances in Wichita at the Crown Uptown, Center for the Arts, Wichita Community Theatre, Century II, and Guild Hall. Dona has been recognized by the Mary Jane Teall Awards process for acting and directing. Dona performed one woman show, sponsored by Land Institute in Salina and traveled throughout Kansas performing on behalf of the Land Institute. Dona recently appeared in Trip to Bountiful at Guild Hall Players, recreating one of her favorite characters, Carrie Watts.

Bob Lancaster has been designing and building sets, acting, directing and serving WCT as a Board member for 30 years.

“The most poignant element of Gurney’s piece is the story between the lines, the words Andy and Melissa cannot bring themselves to write.” - Coral Andrews of Playwrights and Stage Actors.
