WPD to Co-Host Community Cookout with Community Activists This Weekend
After peaceful protests Tuesday evening, a meeting was called between Wichita Chief of Police Gordon Ramsay and Black Lives Matter protest leader A.J. Bohannon. During this meeting, it was decided, among other things, that in lieu of a protest that was to take place Sunday evening, there would instead be a community cookout where WPD would spend the evening giving back to and interacting with the community, according to a post made on Bohannon’s Facebook. Along with food, the post mentions activities such as bouncy houses for kids and table top games such as Uno, dominos and other board and card games.
It has been named the 1st Step Cookout, as it is seen as being the first step in bringing the police department and community together. The cookout is to be held at McAdams Park,1329 E. 13th Street North, near Barry Sanders Field. The festivities are set to being at 6 p.m.
