Kansas Entrepreneurs Compete in WSU New Venture Competition
Sixteen teams of tomorrows entrepreneurs will compete at Wichita State University’s Shocker New Venture Competition. In this competition, teams of students to create business concepts in hopes of being selected as the New Venture. Winners will receive $30,000 in start-up funds for their proposed project.
The competition garnered a lot of interest, receiving Intent-to-Compete forms from 64 teams that, combined, were made up of 175 participants from across the state of Kansas. These teams were required to submit a of their business concept. From there, a panel of judges selected 36 teams to advance to the next stage of the competition, a 10-page screening round. Now, just 16 teams have advanced to the trade show round. Selections were made based on criteria such as financial projections, market viability and the new venture’s stage of development.
The Competition is run through Wichita State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, and is sponsored by Foulston Siefkin, Intrust Bank, Mitchell & Richards, Riverside Health Foundation, Wesley Medical Center, Hayes Co., Lubrication Engineers Inc. and NetWork Kansas.
The 16 teams advancing to the trade show are:

The trade show will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at Charles Koch Arena. Competing teams will set up displays and pitch their business concepts to over 120 business leaders. The event is open to the public.
Teams will receive “investments” during this time, and the six teams with the most investments will advance to the final round. Just one week later, finalists will go head to head in the competition’s last round. The final round will be held in Devlin Hall, room 107, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday April 29. An award ceremony will follow in the Innovation Hub, Room 215. Winners will announced at 5 p.m.
