Wichita Welcomes New Coffee Shop

Wichita has always been home to exceptional coffee shops. Places that offer a great sense of community, a hub for friends to gather and hang out. Sente is such a place. Opened in November, this wonderful, spacious coffee shop features a full menu of coffee drinks and pastries.

However what sets Sente apart from Wichita’s other coffee shops is its vast selection of board games. The back wall of the shop features a giant shelf filled with over 200, and counting, games. With everything from Monopoly and Scrabble, to Settlers of Catan and Cards Against Humanity, Sente has a game for every skill set and age level.

Caitlin Doolittle and Thomas Koch set out to create a place that was unique in the Wichita coffee shop scene where visitors could relax, enjoy both wonderful pastries and delicious coffee drinks or play their favorite games. The result is a creative space filled with tables for all the gaming as well as comfy couches and chairs to lounge around and free Wi-Fi so you can work on school work, or an article that is due.

I’m honestly not much of a coffee aficionado, however, my wife and our friends have tried several different coffee drinks and rave about them constantly. I will admit the last few visits I’ve indulged in some hot chocolate and it was delicious. Also if you get hungry during a marathon game of Forbidden Island you can enjoy a selection of pastries from Nice Bites Bakery, which makes a variety of all vegan pastries including cinnamon rolls, muffins, cookies and more. They also feature some more traditional snacks such as candy bars and M&Ms.

Sente has become a regular hangout for me since it’s located on the bottom level of the Douglas on the Northwest corner of Douglas and Market. However, it’s also become quite popular with our friends as we’ve spent quite a bit of time playing both our own games and trying out new games out of Sente’s vast library.

It’s $5 for an all-day pass to play from their game library but free if you bring your own game. On Thursdays, Sente features free to play on all games from the Classic Games shelf and Sundays the featured free game is Chess.

Sente is located at 132 E Douglas Ave at the corner of Douglas and Market in downtown Wichita KS. They are open 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Wednesday through Monday and closed on Tuesdays.
