You Can Help Make Wichita Beautiful

With scenic river views, historic red-brick streets and an abundance of sculptures and public art, there’s no denying that Wichita is a beautiful place. Despite its natural beauty, however, some of Wichita’s outstanding aesthetic comes from regular maintenance, and we’re fortunate that our city officials are dedicated to keeping Wichita so pretty.

Whether it’s landscaping, applying a fresh coat of paint, or simply picking up trash, it truly is the little things that count. Sure, there are people whose jobs require them to perform these kinds of tasks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help make a difference! Instead, you can show your appreciation for their hard work by getting involved!

Downtown Clean Up

The Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, the City of Wichita departments of Parks and Recreation and Public Works will host a Downtown Clean Up from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 1.

Participants can select the projects that they would like to participate in when they register. Among tasks to be performed are painting the Douglas underpass, painting area curbs and parking stalls,  sweeping sidewalks, landscaping at Naftzger Park and at A. Price Woodard Park, landscaping and maintenance at ICT Pop-Up Urban Park, removing graffiti and stickers, washing transit shelters and picking up trash.

Though registration is required and must be submitted by Wednesday, March 29, participation in the event is completely voluntary. Westar Energy will be providing lunch to all volunteers.

Those who wish to participate can send registration to Alex Pemberton at alex@downtownwichita.org or register by phone at 316-264-6005. Participants should wear work clothes and bring work gloves if possible. In the event of rain, the Downtown Clean Up will be postponed for a later date. If applicable, cancellation notification will be provided via email, Facebook and Twitter.
