Cool Wichita Architecture
A lot of Wichita's buildings, both old and new, have one thing in common: really cool architecture. Whether built in the 1880's or the 2010's, these unique buildings are among the coolest in Wichita. Check them out below!
Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum
The Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum is located in the old City Hall building at 204 S. Main Street downtown.
Commerce Bank
You'll find this modern-style, mostly glass Commerce Bank in east Wichita's Waterfront. If you don't recognize it, it may be because you're used to seeing the back of the building, which faces Webb Road.
St. Anthony's Church
Located at 258 N. Ohio Avenue, this church features design elements from an earlier era, and many large, stained glass windows.
Intrust Bank Arena
This building recently celebrated it's fifth anniversary. Intrust Bank Arena's design is modern and interesting, featuring a unique blend of sharp angles and rounded walls.
Kansas Masonic Home
Wichita is home to the Kansas Masonic Home, located on the southwest corner of Maple and Seneca. The building features a slate roof and plaster finish.
The Plaid Giraffe
If you're an east-sider, you know that this building is no stranger to bright colors. Having been pink, orange, and now lime green, the largely black glass Plaid Giraffe building is full of surprises!
Epic Center
It's not called "Epic" for nothing. This unique structure is the tallest building in Wichita, and it is an iconic piece of Wichita's skyline.
Spice Merchant
The Spice Merchant is located in the old Mentholatum building on Douglas and Cleveland. It features a unique eastern-inspired design.
Firebirds
Also located in the Waterfront, this Wichita restaurant is known for its architecture as well as its food. The building highlights a large domed roof that's hard to miss!
East High School
East High School was founded in 1878. The large brick and stone building at Douglas and Grove features inscriptions and unique detailing.
Crown Uptown
This building includes several unique elements, from the mosaic tile to the molding around the top of the structure.
Country Club Park
These aren't your typical offices. Country Club Park is among the newer of styles featured, and offers several unique elements like arches, detailed stone railings, spires and more.
Union Station
Wichita's Union Station is located on Douglas and features a really cool blend of light and dark materials. The tall rounded windows and round columns give the structure a very prestigious look.
Oriental Rug Gallery
Located right next to the Spice Merchant, this building features a multi-colored slate roof that's really eye catching.
Old Town Warren
This should come as no surprise to Wichitans who have visited Old Town. The design of this theatre is remarkable, and it's a definite focal point in the Old Town square.
Castle at Riverside
Who could forget Wichita's beloved Castle at Riverside? This castle was built in 1888 and has been Wichita landmark ever since!
Century II
What would downtown be without this round, blue-roofed local favorite? The structure is a crucial element of downtown Wichita's aesthetic.
Kress Energy Building
Arguably one of the most beautiful buildings on Douglas, the Kress Energy Building features an abundance of detailing, a type of architecture that is not as common now as it was in 1929 when Kress was built.
Frank Lloyd Wright House
Of course, we can't forget Frank Lloyd Wright's Allen-Lambe House! Located at 200 Roosevelt, this is one of a few Wichita structures by Frank Lloyd Wright, a well-known American architect.
