Summertime is just around the corner and that means it's time to start planning. A wide variety of summer camps are available in the Wichita area, focusing in a variety of different areas. From art, music and science to athletics and the great outdoors, there's a camp for every interest! Check out these day camp options!

Bliss Bouldering and Climbing Complex

Length: Four days, 1-4 p.m.

The Cosmosphere's Solar System camp teaches students about space travel and teamwork through hands-on activities. Designed specifically for children entering second and third grade, this camp offers a fun and exciting opportunity for younger children to learn about space! The camp will run twice this summer, from June 5-9, and again from July 10-14. During each program, both a morning and afternoon session will be held. Morning camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon camps will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.


Lunar Base

Length: Five half-days (9 a.m. to noon or 1-4 p.m.)

Lunar Base Camp designed for children entering third or fourth grade. Focusing primarily on the exciting challenges of living on the moon, this camp will allow campers to work in teams, create lunar colonies and experience science hands-on. The camp will run twice this summer, from June 5-9, and again from July 10-14. During each program, both a morning and afternoon session will be held. Morning camps will run from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon camps will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.


Adult Astronaut Adventure

Length: Three days, no overnight accommodations provided

The Cosmosphere also offers an Adult Astronaut Experience that offers the unique opportunity for adults to use high-powered telescopes, learn from space experts, participate in simulated missions enjoy wine and cheese and even a dinner at Hutchinson's Airport Steakhouse! The three-day camp will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 28 and run until 10 p.m. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday and again on Sunday, this day camp does not provide overnight accommodations.

Superhero and Princess Science

The only thing cooler than engineering city buildings is watching them come crashing down, right? At Exploration Places's Masters of Disasters grade school camp, children get to do both! From July 31 to Aug. 4, children can craft chaos as design a city that will later be destroyed in a carefully crafted battle.

From August 7-11, Exploration Place partners with Music Theatre Wichita to offer its Extra! Extra! Read All About It! camp. MTW hosts Disney's Newsies this summer, so this camp gets involved by investigating science news from all over the world! If that's not enough, campers will even get to publish the very first edition of the Exploration Place Summer Science Gazette!

Tinker Tech courses are designed for grades five through nine and will be held in Exploration Place's Butler Community College Technology Studio.

Heroes Alive: Comic Strip Animation

Offering a slightly more advanced approach, this Comic Strip Animation course will allow students to both design and animate their digital heroes that fly over the Wichita cityscape. Heroes Alive: Comic Strip Animation will run from June 5-9.

Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis

Genesis Foundation for Fitness

Ages: 6-15, new players only

The Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis will once again offer Junior Tennis Summer Camps. The series of introductory tennis lessons are taught by Genesis Health Club tennis professionals. Intended to give interested youth the opportunity to learn the sport, this camp in recommended for new players only.

Children will learn fundamental tennis skills like forehand, backhand, volley, serve and overhead as well as basic strategy. Registration dates and times have yet to be announced for Summer sessions. Check for updates.

Hot Art For Cool Kids is designed for children between the ages of six and 12. Art Start Goes to Camp allows children ages three to five the opportunity to use their imaginations as they create, talk, sing, and play at the Wichita Art Museum’s summer preschool camp. This program will feature four different themes on Tuesdays in June and July. Sessions will run from 10-11:30 .am. and from 1:30-3 p.m. Students are invited to attends one, two, or all of the sessions. CityArts will offer a variety of Summer Camp programs this year, each featuring a theme of “Explore Your Creativity on Route 66”. Each week, campers will create projects in different mediums, including leather work, jewelry, glass fusing, pottery, fiber, painting, digital arts and more. Campers will receive a sampling of all the mediums that CityArts offers. If a child likes one particular medium during art camp, he or she will be encouraged to explore a youth art class. CityArts offers a wide variety of youth and teen art classes each session. Camp enrollment is for the entire week and campers should bring a sack lunch and a refillable water bottle each day. Happy Feet Soccer Camps

Happy Feet Soccer offers a variety of programs for different ages and skill levels. For preschoolers, the curriculum focuses on enhancing coordination and balance, boosting self-esteem and self-confidence, and increasing skills in listening and following directions. For grade-school-age children, the program highlights a Legends curriculum that includes fun games like Sharks and Minnows and much more. Two summer sessions of Health/PE are available through Trinity Academy this year. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the first session occurring from May 22 to June 6, and the second session taking place from June 12-30. In this course, students will learn the concepts of team sports and gain an understanding of first aid training, major bones and muscles and nutrition. PE Uniforms are required and are included in the cost of the class. Class will not be held on Friday, June 30.

Wichita Gymnastics will offer day camps from 1-4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays this summer. During camps, children will spend one hour swimming, one hour doing gymnastics and playing games, and one hour doing arts and crafts. Children will be provided with a snack and a drink each day. Inspired by Nickelodeon's plucky pups led by 10-year- old Ryder, the Paw Patrol camp is a great choice for fans of the show! Each a rescue dog in training, the pups on the show are each inspired by a real-world job like firefighter, police officer or medic, and the work together to protect the community. Students in the Paw Patrol camp will enhance the theme through the use of music, dance, theatre, and art. This session will run from 10-11:30 a.m. on June 5-9. 


Disney's Winnie the Pooh (A Musical)

Disney Radio (A Musical)

This camp will use music, theatre, and art to enhance the theme based on popular children's show, Doc McStuffins. In the show, 7-year-old Dottie dreams of becoming a doctor, just like her mother. Using art, photography, and classical music, this camp offers a colorful backdrop for the adventures of four young friends, the Little Einsteins. Featuring a dance component as well, this camp gives children a taste of a variety of fine arts. This session will run from 10-11:30 a.m. on July 10-14.

Catch up with the world-famous candy man in this WCTDC summer camp! This camp will produce a musical based on the Roald Dahl classic. This production will be performed at The Wichita Children’s Theatre on Sat., July 22. This session will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon, on weekdays from July 3-21.


Magic Treehouse “Pirates Past Noon” Plus Art (At Mark Arts, 9112 E. Central)

This camp, based on the best-selling book series, will chronicle characters Jack and Annie on a journey to the 18th Century Caribbean and the time of Pirates. Each enrolled student will perform in this show and work with an art teacher to make set pieces and props. This production will be performed at Mark Arts on  Fri., July 21. The session runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from July 10-21.

Half Day Camps at the West YMCA will provide breakfast daily. At this camp, students will learn about art, theatre, science and nature in the mornings and spend the afternoons swimming. Price: $30 per family for members, $50 per family nonmembers 
Locations: YMCA Camp Hyde
Family Day Camps at the Camp Hyde offer a fun camp experience for the whole family! Participating families should bring a picnic lunch. At the Y's family day camp, you and your family can enjoy activities like the 50ft Alpine Tower, Wet Willie slide, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding and swimming.
