The Best Local Hot Spots in Wichita
We’ve all been there. You’re visiting a brand new city and you wake up bright and early in the morning in your AirBnB, and your stomach is growling like an angry dog. “Where do I go to grab breakfast, and of course, my morning cup ‘o joe”, you wonder? Whether it be for business or for pleasure, it can often be intimidating to find out the best local spots to check out. Here are some of the can’t-miss spots right here in the ICT.
Step One: Roll out of bed and put on those sweats.

That’s right. No need to get all dolled up in this neck of the woods. Wichitans will happily accept you and your beloved hoodie strolling into one of local, laid-back coffee shops.
If you’re on the east side of town, stop into Reverie Coffee Roasters. With a drip coffee like theirs, how can you not be in #loveforeverie? Not only do the folks at Reverie want you to enjoy your tasty beverage, but they want you to understand it. That’s right. Reverie also educates their customers on the different techniques and equipment that is used to produce your drink of choice. Check out their Brew Guide here. Oh! And don’t forget a scone on your way out.
Closer to downtown? No problem. Just keep your eyes peeled for the reflection of the giant disco ball spinning in the front window of Espresso To Go Go. You’ll never meet a set of friendlier faces than here. Not only will they welcome you with a smile, but they’ll have you on your way to continue exploring Wichita in no time flat. Notice the ever-so-subtle cooler full of ice cream in the corner? Yes, those glorious little containers of Little Lion ice cream are for sale. Go ahead and treat yourself to a pint… you’ve earned it.
Step Two: Score yourself some ICT swag.

Now that you’ve gotten your much-needed energy boost, it’s time to do a little shopping! If you’re looking for that unique gift for the oddball in your life, drive on over to Lucinda's, right in the heart of Old Towne Square. It’s easy to spend at least an hour in this colorful, trendy boutique. Off the wall cat socks? Check. Novelty drinking glasses? Check. Locally made artisan jewelry? Check.
If you didn’t find quite what you were looking for here, only 5 minutes away lies another gem: The Workroom. This is your destination for vintage and custom home decor, unlike any other. And if you’re lucky enough to visit in the warmer months, you can enjoy the 2nd Saturday events which feature outdoor vendors, live music, and food trucks.
Forgot your sister’s birthday? Your best friends promotion? Wichita’s local shop Love of Character has you covered. Prepare yourself for the cutest gifts, holiday decor and party supplies. If you have an extra day in town, sign up for one of their hands-on workshops!
Step Three: Lunch so hard.
Now that you’ve worn yourself out shopping, lay back, lounge on the patio of Dempsey’s Burger Pub or fill your belly with the amazing delicacies of Dempsey’s Biscuit Co. Dempsey’s is located in the historic Clifton Square, and the sweet potato fries are a must-have. Its sister restaurant Dempsey’s Biscuit Co. is right across the street, and you cannot go wrong with anything you order off of their southern-inspired menu.
Craving Mexican instead? Then The Cactus is the place for you. Come say ‘Hi’ to the owner Daniel, and get all the margaritas and queso your heart desires. This privately owned cantina will not disappoint.
Step Four: Play Time!

If you have some down time between lunch and dinner or the kiddos want to stretch their legs and release some energy, we have the perfect spot for you to hang out: The ICT Pop-Up Urban Park. Grab a snack at any of the local food trucks (check their Facebook page to see the current line up), try your hand at the outdoor ping pong table, or leave your mark on one of the ICT Chalk Talk boards. This local, family-friendly destination will make for some great memories.
Step Five: Tip It On Back.
After a fun filled day of exploring Wichita, you are now winding down with some drinks with friends. If craft beer is your forte; no questions asked… head on over to the retro-inspired Central Standard Brewing! If the weather is toasty enough, the patio is the place to be. (And is also dog friendly!)
If you lean more towards signature cocktails, you will find ALL of the locals hanging out at Mort’s Cigar and Martini Bar. Often featuring live music by local musicians, this local joint attracts people of all ages. Just know that here, Wichitans have a “we share tables” approach. If you see an open spot by one of us, feel free to join.
If you find yourself not only parched of thirst but also want to catch the big game, visit Emerson Biggin’s Sports Bar and Grill which has daily drink specials and two convenient locations. Another great option is Loft 150, right above River City Brewing Co. downtown. With 70” TVs and open garage doors to let the sun and fresh air in, what’s not to love?
Have a larger group? Or need somewhere nearby Intrust Bank Arena to have dinner and drinks before the concert? Lou’s Chartaqueria caters to your needs with their famous, fresh charcuterie trays full of meats and cheeses (perfect for sharing) and is located directly behind the arena.
See You Next Time
