Celebrating Mom!
“All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my mother."
– Abraham Lincoln
As a busy mother of four daughters and three stepchildren, I believe I'm qualified enough to say that being a mom is hard work. Most days I feel like a cook, chauffeur, referee, hairdresser, personal attendant and ATM all rolled up into one.
Despite the hard work, being a mom is the most rewarding job I could ask for. I also feel blessed to be able to still have my own mom in my life. Because I now know first-hand the struggles she faced and the strength that she modeled for me. I like to take the opportunity to give back to her on Mother’s Day every year.
This year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 13. Perhaps your mother is no longer living or not involved in your life, this is also a day to celebrate anyone who has been a motherly figure to you, be it a grandmother, aunt, sister, or maybe even a friend that has stepped into the role of being a support to you.
Mother's Day Activities

Botanica, The Wichita Gardens
Wichita offers plenty of Mother’s Day activities for you to treat mom! Here are a few of my favorites.
The Hyatt Regency
The Hyatt will be holding a Mother's Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in their Riverview Ballroom overlooking the Arkansas River. Their tasty menu includes a continental breakfast, an omelet/waffle station, carving station and desserts. Call 316-613-6400 to make your reservation.
Tallgrass Country Club
Tallgrass is offering a Mother’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The chef will be preparing a gourmet meal consisting of Denver eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and more. Mimosas will also be served to treat mom! Visit their Facebook page for more information.
Sedgwick County Zoo and Tanganyika Wildlife Park
If your mom prefers to be out in the sunshine on her special day, consider enjoying the wildlife at one of our zoos, which are both offering Mother’s Day special admission pricing.
Botanica Gardens
Botanica is holding Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 12 from 10-11:30 a.m. Tickets are $5 for members and $12 for non-members. Hors-d'oeuvres and hibiscus tea will be served. Call Natalie at 316-264-0448 ext. 107 to make your reservation. On Sunday, Botanica is also hosting a free event for mothers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stroll the gardens, enjoy an adult beverage and shop local artists!
Gifts
If you prefer to get mom gifts, consider a hand-made item from the kids or perhaps a massage at her favorite spa. Breakfast in bed is always appreciated or just giving her the afternoon to read her favorite book or browse her favorite store.
Whoever you think of as mom and however you would like to arrange the day for her, make sure you let her know how much she is appreciated on Mother’s Day and every day throughout the year. Mom’s are pretty important people!
I love you, mom!
