Wine About Cancer

Wine about Cancer

If you’re a lover of Wine and good causes, don’t worry. Just because This year’s Midwest Winefest has come and gone, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other local events that combine wine and philanthropy!  On May 4, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society hosts its Wine About Cancer event at Exploration Place.

“Wine About Cancer is important to the community because it brings wine-lovers together for an amazing night all while befitting the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families,” Chris Elmore of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society said.

The event began as a campaign event for last year’s Woman of the Year, Tori Deatherage.

“Because the event had so much support, she [Deatherage] graciously decided to put the event on again this year,” Elmore said.

This Year's Event

This year, the event will offer a night filled with unlimited sampling of more than 30 varieties of wine, food from local restaurants, music, games, silent auction, a cigar deck, a Riedel glass for each guest to take home and more.

If that’s not enough, you’ll also have an opportunity to get dressed up, as cocktail attire is requested (but not required).

Proceeds from the benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and supporting all of the 2017 Man and Woman of the Year candidates.

“Candidates have been selling tickets, which will individually benefit their campaigns and they each have had the opportunity to submit a silent auction package, which will also benefit their campaign. This event also gives them the opportunity to mingle with the attendees and ‘spread the word’ about their campaign,” Elmore said.

The event will take place on May 4 from 6:30-10 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $55. If you’ve purchased the now sold out VIP package, which was priced at $75, you’ll be granted early entrance at 6 p.m., access to an exclusive VIP room, a complimentary cigar of your choice, and a swag bag filled with goodies.

According to Elmore, there’s a $20,000 fundraising goal in place for the event, so come out and support a great cause! For those who wish to further get involved, the local LLS office can hook you up with some great opportunities. Give them a call at 316-266-4050.
