Walk to End Alzheimer's- Wichita

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is back in Wichita for the 18th time on Saturday September 10 at Lawrence Dumont stadium. The event is a huge celebration of those living with Alzheimer's, as well as a way to honor those we have lost to the illness.

The two-mile walk is set to go through Wichita's Delano District, with many businesses participating in the festivities, as well as along the scenic Arkansas River.

Being that the event will be held in their home stadium, the Wichita Wingnuts will participate, with owner. Pete Rose Jr. leading the team.

Participants are encouraged to form teams and register online in order to have access to resources and an online platform for fundraising. Individuals and teams who raise money are eligible for all kinds of great incentive prizes, and awards will be given to individuals and teams who raise the most money.

Included with the Walk is the always inspirational 'Promise Garden.'  Participants are given a flower to write a loved ones name on, and those flowers are held through the Walk, and then 'planted' in the Promise Garden. The resulting visual of all of the flowers in the garden together is a stark reminder as to why it is so important to continue to raise funds and find a cure for this disease.

"The Walk to End Alzheimer's serves a number of different functions for this community; it helps raise money for needed programs, services, and research, it helps raise awareness and advocacy for the disease, and most important, it provides a time to celebrate and remember loved ones who are living with Alzheimer's, or who have died from Alzheimer's.  Because there is no cure for this disease, then the Walk is incredibly significant," Rene Duxler, Development Director of the Alzheimer's Association Central & Western Kansas said.

The event will include activities such as :

  • Zumba
  • Face-painting
  • Food
  • Live entertainment
  • Other fun activities inside the ballpark

All funds raised will go directly to the Alzheimer's Association.
