How to Get Your Kids Involved with Theatre This Summer

With summer vacation fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to find activities to get your kids out of the house. For parents of young performers now is the perfect time to sign up your aspiring thespian for classes to improve their skills. Here are some places in Wichita offering performing arts classes.
Wichita Center for Performing Arts
Wichita’s newest performing arts educator, Wichita Center for Performing Arts, will be opening for the first time this summer. Located at 9112 E Central, in the old Mark Arts building, this newly renovated space will teach children ages 2 and up.
It offers a wide variety of classes including several dance disciplines, acting, comedy, improvisation, stage combat, playwriting, instrumental music and more.
Classes meet one to four days a week, depending on the age of participants and subject matter of the class. To see the class selection and register your child, go to WichitaCenter.org.
Christian Youth Theater
Since 2009, Christian Youth Theater has taught musical theater to Wichitans ages 5-18 of all faiths. Campers are separated into kid and teen camps, with a half option for kids age 5-7.
Kids Camp themes are “Be Brave” and “Go Fish.” They will take place at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and West Evangelical Free Church, respectively. Teen Camp will take place at the Riney Fine Arts Center at Friends University and will feature music from “The Greatest Showman.”
Discounts are offered for enrolling in more than one camp and enrolling more than one child. To learn more about the different camps and sign up go to CYTwichita.org.
