Get Your Geek on in Wichita
Wichita is known for the obvious things: being Air Capital of the World, the birthplace of Pizza Hut, and of course, the notorious Wichita State Shockers. What Wichita needs to be known for is its geek culture. Wichita has done a tremendous job in embracing its art scene, and now the nerds are having Scotty beam them up to their rightful place in the Wichita community.
Fantastic Summer at the Orpheum

Aug. 7, 14 & Sept. 21
The Orpheum Theater is continuing its Fantastic Summer in the best way. Star Trek: First Contact will play on Aug. 7, while Star Trek (2009) will play Aug. 14. The Dark Crystal will be shown on Sept. 21, and while it’s not part of the Fantastic Summer Movie Series, it is still a must-see.
ICT Comic Con

August 11-12th
“Wichita’s new home for all things science fiction, comics, horror, movies, and more” is back! ICT Comic Con Science Fiction Expo Year 2.0 is taking place at the Sedgwick County Extension Center. Friday hours are 3-8 P.M., while the Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Not only will it have some of the best artists and cosplayers, but they’re also featuring home grown talent. TF Expo

Aug. 18-20
The latest Transformer’s movie may have hit theaters back in June, but TFExpo is now coming to Wichita at the Sedgwick County Extension Office. It’s not just for fans of the famous toy line and movies because the 7th annual TFExpo also features retro gaming and artists. Tickets vary from $20-$50. Find out more at facebook.com/TFExpoICT.
Grinning Goblin Gaming Tavern

Early September
Wichita is going to be home to another video game bar: The Grinning Goblin. They’re completely community driven and completely nerdy. If you’re looking for a place to relax, play games, meet new people, and be surrounded by all things geeky: the Grinning Goblin is for you! They’re not open as of yet—they’re expecting to open toward the beginning of September. You can check out their Facebook page for opening updates and their IndieGoGo they’ve started to help them find those rare vintage consoles. I personally can’t wait to get my game and drink on at Grinning Goblin!
Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey

Oct. 19-22
Grab a stalk of celery and geronimo! Time Eddy III Doctor Who Convention is coming back to Wichita, but this time at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in downtown ICT. Time Eddy will happen Oct. 20-22, complete with Daleks, the Tardis, and special guests. Time Eddy is also hosting A Night Among the Stars, an event taking place at the Cosmosphere; Science fiction meets science fact on October 19. Tickets vary from $17-$60. Air Capital Comic Con

Nov 11-12
Wichita welcomes a “fun, family-friendly premier comic book convention!” Air Capital Comic Con swings into ICT at Century II Convention Center. It’s keeping comic books and their creators at their forefront, while also celebrating all things geek! Artists, cosplayers, tabletop games, and more are going to be praised at this comic convention. Hall of Heroes

Exploration Place always has amazing traveling exhibits and Hall of Heroes is no different. You can test your skills and unleash your superpowers! Don’t worry—you have plenty of time to experience the magic of crime fighting vigilantes. Hall of Heroes will be at Exploration Place until January 1, 2018.
