Celebrate National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month. Get in the literary spirit by listening to poetry or sharing your own at these events!

United Vybez Poetry Night

United Vybez Poetry Night is held every first and third Tuesday of the month. Join a diverse crowd for poetry readings, followed by a conversation about the poems and their subject matter with the poet. Just show up to listen or read your writing since advanced sign up is not required. Snacks and drinks are provided.

When: Tuesday, April 3 and 17 from 6-8 p.m.

Where: United Vybez Culture & More (2003 E Central)

Cost: Free

R Sound Presents

R Sound Presents is a music and poetry show. The night features all local musicians and writers presenting their latest creations. Come to just listen and enjoy the words and coffee or participate yourself.

If you would like to perform, you will need to message them with your soonest availability, how long you'd like to perform and what you'd like to perform. The deadline to sign up is the Monday before the event, but spots are limited and may fill up quickly.

When: Tuesday, April 3 and 17 from 7-10 p.m.

Where: R Coffee House (1144 N Bitting Ave)

Mead’s Corner Open Mic Night

Mead’s Corner hosts an open mic night the first Saturday of every month in their back room. Bring your own work or just come to see family-friendly music, poetry and comedy acts. You do not have to sign up ahead of time to perform.

When: Saturday, April 7 from 6-9 p.m.

Where: Mead’s Corner back room (430 E Douglas Ave)

Writing Now/Reading Now

Celebrate the 2018 Wichita State MFA Creative Writing graduating class. The afternoon will feature a reception at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reading at 2 p.m. Eight students will read selections from their best poetry and fiction pieces. The event is open to the public.

When: Sunday, April 29 from 1:30-3 p.m.

Where: Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University (1845 Fairmount Street)
