Back to School Events and Fundraisers
It’s August, and school supplies have made their way to the shelves, to shopping carts and to student’s homes. Everyone’s gearing up for a new school year, and there’s no time to waste! If you’re sending the kiddos back to the classroom, check out these back to school events and fundraisers happening right here in Wichita.
Wichita State University
Wichita State University’s Back 2 School Bash returns this year! The traditional event welcomes new and returning students to Shocker Nation. Students will be able to make new friends and catch up with the old at the Rhatigan Student Center event, which will take place from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on August 20. Students can enjoy food, live music, inflatables, carnival games and prizes as the welcome the new school year. The first 750 Students in attendance will even receive a Back 2 School Bash t-shirt! This event, located on the lawn by the RSC, has its own hashtag, so you know it’s the real deal. Follow #B2SB16 on Twitter to keep up with the fun, and check out the video of last year’s Bash!
Towne East Square
Towne East Square will host a Back to School Event on August 13 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Get ready for a fun afternoon with filled school pride. The event will feature complimentary refreshments and live music. Grab a few college themed props and hop in the photo booth for a few pictures! There will also be 80’s and 90’s themed props for a throwback photoshoot! All photo booth participants will receive a few swag bag filled with samples, coupons, and more. The event will also feature freeze models showing off the hottest back to school trends. Representatives from WSU will be present, and ready to give information about classes, enrollment and more. If that’s not enough, there will be a raffle for a chance to win tickets to Carrie Underwood and I Love the 90’s at Intrust Bank Arena!
Boys and Girls Club

For the first time ever, the Wichita Boys and girls club is hosting a Not Human basketball game and school drive. The game will highlight the top 24 basketball players in Wichita on two 12 person teams. There event will also include a dunk contest and a three point shootout for added excitement! Special guest Kirko Banks will attend the event. Enjoy music from live DJs Gabby G and DJ Fluid, food from local food trucks, five-on-five basketball games, local vendors, free giveaways and more. The event will also feature a back to school drive. Proceeds from the event will provide local children with necessities like school clothing, supplies, after-school snacks and more.
The event will take place on August 13 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Wichita chapter of the Boys and Girls club, located at 2400 North Opportunity Dr. Adult admission is $10, and children ages five and under get in for free.

KAKE News
Since 1996, KAKE News has held a School Supply Landslide event every year. During this event, the station collects school supplies and donates them to local children in need. Last year, more than 10,000 students received school supplies from the School Supply Landslide. This year’s event will run through Aug. 26. If you’d like to get involved, donations can be dropped off at any Credit Union of America location in the Wichita area, or at KAKE Studios at 1500 N. West Street.
Monetary donations will also be accepted. Checks should be made out to “The Salvation Army” with “School Supply Landslide” noted on the memo line.

Sigma Lambda Beta at WSU
Sigma lambda Beta will also host a Back 2 School supplies drive this year, running through Aug. 12. Both school supply and monetary donations are welcome. All Donations should be dropped off at Wichita State University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
