Wichita Live Theatre Preview: Fall & Holiday 2020
Fall has brought live theatre back to Wichita this 2020, with measures and precautions for COVID-19. Many of your annual favorites are back to bring you comfort and joy during the holidays, and there are plenty of new shows to enjoy, too!
Most theatres are requiring reservations in order to keep audience sizes within guidelines, so don't wait to book tickets. Productions are subject to schedule changes, cancellations or switches to a digital format.
Without further ado, here's your Wichita Live Theatre 2020 Fall & Holiday Preview!
Mosley Street Melodrama
If you're feeling nostalgic, you won't want to miss the latest uproarious comedy at Mosley Street Melodrama! Both the first act-parody "What Would Scooby Do This Time?" and the second-act musical comedy revue "Haunted Joyland" pay homage to Wichita's much-remembered Joyland Amusement Park. It runs September 11–October 31.
Mosley Street's holiday shows are always popular, so get your tickets early for "A Tinsel Tale of Tori," running November 13–December 26. It'll be just the thing to lift your spirits this season!
"Oh, sweet mystery of life, at last I've found you!"
Following up on their wildly popular "Baby Jane" and "Hocus Pocus," Roxy's puts on the ritz with "Young Frankenstein: a Scary Parody." In addition to a cast of local favorites, this production features a set design by Emmy nominated Michael Downs. Performances are sure to sell out quickly for this limited run: October 1–November 1.
Wichita's favorite comedic duo, Kyle Vespestad and Monte Wheeler, return for the fourth iteration of "The Kyle & Monte Christmas Musical," running November 13–December 27. Enjoy all new songs, all new laughs and all new holiday cheer and joy! This holiday favorite is already selling out performances, so you'll want to get tickets early.
"White Noise" at Kechi Playhouse
Be the first to see an all-new mystery this October! Kechi Playhouse debuts the world premiere of "White Noise" by Storme Maynard, running October 2–25. A troubled marine biologist is in town as a guest lecturer when strange things begin to happen. What in her past has come forward to haunt her?
Wichita Community Theatre
Are you ready for some spine-chilling twists and turns this Halloween season? Don't miss "Dial M for Murder" at Wichita Community Theatre, running October 15-25. This classic crime mystery was made famous by the Hitchcock film of the same name.
For the holiday season, WCT presents the heartwarming "Over the River and Through the Woods" by Joe DiPietro. This gentle comedy about family and growing up will tug at your heartstrings. It runs December 3–13.
Wichita Grand Opera
Three generations of opera singers from across the country will light up the stage at Wichita Grand Opera's spectacular Opera Gala, featuring selections from throughout the history of opera. They will be led by Maestro Whitney Reader, who is returning to his native Wichita from Germany for these concerts. Two performances only—October 17 and 18.
Next is a uniquely "Kansas Christmas," with performances December 11 and 12. Kansas may not have reindeer, but we have buffalo! Join the Grand Opera for a fun evening of holiday favorites sung by their talented group of singers.
"The Rocky Horror Show" by Signature Theatre and Crown Uptown Theatre
Get ready to do the Time Warp again with this cult favorite, just in time for Halloween! In this live theatrical experience, you'll travel with Brad and Janet as they encounter libidinous mad scientist Frank-N-Furter for a thrilling night of creation, adventure, love and lust. This rock n' roll musical by Richard O' Brien is presented by Signature Theatre and the Crown Uptown Theatre with performances October 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31. Costumes are encouraged, and participation kits are available for purchase.
"The Mystery at Snowy Point" at Prairie Pines Playhouse
Great for holiday parties or a night out with friends and family, Prairie Pines Playhouse Mystery Theatre offers an all-inclusive evening of entertainment. Enjoy an interactive, high-energy "whodunnit" played between courses of a delicious holiday meal. The actors and servers serve dinner directly to your table. "The Mystery at Snowy Point" runs November 20–December 23.
"Cool Yule" at Forum Theatre Wichita
Featuring holiday hits from artists across the decades, "Cool Yule" is a new Wichita Christmas tradition! The Forum Theatre Company puts their creative minds and their experience in dance spectaculars, cruise ship shows and extravaganzas together for a dazzling production. It runs December 4–20.
