It's Your Unlucky Day: Ways to Avoid Bad Luck
Once on a particularly cold day, I dropped my ice scraper into the slight crack that exists between the windshield and hood of my car. After nearly ten minutes of digging around, I was finally able to fish it out. This was early in the morning, and at that moment I accepted that this was not my lucky day. Nor was it likely anyone else's. It was Friday the thirteenth.
For those of you who are superstitious and those who aren't, here are a few things to avoid if you wish to get through the day with as little bad luck as possible.

Avoid these common signs of bad luck.
Common superstition holds that doing any of the following things is likely to bring you bad luck; years and years of it if the offense in serious enough. Here are a few bad luck bringers to avoid.
Don't walk under a ladder.
If you're completing a project that involves the use of a ladder, under no circumstance should you cross underneath it, unless you want bad luck.
Don't continue on a path a black cat has crossed.
Black cats are known to be bad luck as they were once believed to be shape shifting witches. If a black cat crosses your path, turn back: trouble is ahead.
Don't break a mirror.
You do the crime, you do the time. Breaking a mirror is known to bring seven years of bad luck.
Don't step on a crack.
If you do, your mother's well-being might be at stake. You know the old rhyme: Step on a crack and you'll break your mother's back.
Don't open an umbrella indoors.
Rumor has it that opening an umbrella indoors also opens the door to bad luck.
Don't leave your windows open.
If a bird flies in your window, it brings bad luck. Keep those windows closed!
Don't wear an opal.
If opal isn't your birthstone, it's considered bad luck to wear one.
Don't rock an empty rocking chair.
That empty rocking chair might not be as empty as you think. Give it a rock, and it's full of bad luck.
Already broken a rule?
If you've already done one of these things, don't panic. A bad luck curse can be broken by spinning clockwise seven times.
