Dam Music Fest: A Festival By Wichitans For Wichitans

Dam Music Fest's second year at El Dorado Lake is fast approaching! With this year's lineup bringing big names such as Toby Keith and Brantley Gilbert, one might think the festival is organized by a national promoter. On the contrary, Dam Music Fest is primarily organized by five Wichitans who just wanted Wichita to have an awesome festival.

We sat down with Dam Music Fest's organizers so you can get to know the minds behind one of the area's biggest festivals.

What inspired you to put on the Festival?
My mom - she organized a festival in Great Bend, Kansas back in 1978 called Summer Jam One. One of the headliners was Van Halen who played to a crowd of 8,000 people. Also, I thought a festival like this would be something to help put this city on the map.

When the gates open and you hear the first note from the band. You realize, "This is real." I love going backstage to look out at the crowd and see everyone having a great time.
