Wichita Wineries
You don’t have to travel to Napa Valley or Sonoma to get an authentic winery experience. Visit these local wineries, all within an easy drive of Wichita, to discover the world of Kansas winemaking.
Wheat State Wine Co.
Located on a historic 1876 farm in the picturesque Flint Hills, Wheat State Wine Company in Winfield offers a local and genuine vine-to-wine experience. They’re open Fridays and weekends (or anytime by appointment) for free tastings and tours of the winery, vineyard and grounds.
The rustic yet elegant tasting room features a cork floor and wood beams, with a window to the production area so you can view the winemaking process. You’re welcome to picnic on the grounds, or sit back and sip a glass of wine on the patio.
You can also enjoy live music throughout the year! Wheat State Wine Company highlights local talent in their open-air concert series. Check out their events page for details.
Grace Hill Winery & Vineyards
You can have an authentic winery experience at Grace Hill Winery, located about 40 minutes northeast of Wichita in Whitewater.
Wine tastings are free for groups smaller than eight, with affordable rates for larger groups. Take a tour of the Grace Hill Vineyards, winery and cellar to see the entire winemaking process from vine to wine. Afterwards, stick around to enjoy a glass of wine and take in the stunning view from the patio and observation deck.
Want to make your visit a family outing? With toy trains for the kids and yard games for teens (and grown-ups!) there’s plenty of fun for the under-21 set. Outside food is welcome, so you can make a day of it with a picnic.
Wyldewood Cellars Winery
You probably know Wyldewood Cellars for their famous Elderberry Wine and Elderberry Juice Concentrate. But did you know they have over 40 additional fruit, berry and grape-based wines, including several international award winners?
You can taste them for free, seven days a week, at the main winery location in Mulvane, or the Tasting Room in West Wichita. For something really special, they also offer private wine tasting events at their Mulvane location. Hosted by professional International Wine Judge, Winemaker and Wyldewood Cellars Winery Founder Dr. John Brewer, you’ll tour the production facility, learn about tasting wines, and find out how to choose a good wine.
Windswept Winery at Storey Vineyards
Experience a working winery while enjoying Kansas wildlife and nature at Windswept Winery, located about 40 minutes south of Wichita in Udall.
The folks at Windswept Winery are dedicated to providing a great experience and selection for wine newbies and wine connoisseurs alike. There’s only one rule when it comes to choosing a wine here: drink what you like! They offer free tastings in their tasting room, plus tours of the Storey Vineyards. While on the tour, you just might spot one of their “almost famous” resident bluebirds.
