Wichita has a vibrant art community. The most public and widely attended event for this community is Final Friday, as the name suggests it is held on the Final Friday of every month. Downtown museums, art galleries, restaurants and businesses all open their doors to welcome visitors eager to view the local art on display. This month's Final Friday will fall on August 26th. We sat down with local artist Josh Tripoli, to learn more about him and get his take on Final Friday.
Josh Tripoli is a well known local artist, and a long time participant in Final Friday. Specializing in painting and mixed media he exhibits regularly at local and national galleries. Along with several local studios that display his art a public and open display of his work include murals throughout the Douglas Design District as part of a state sponsored beautification project.
Tripoli attributes Final Friday as his first brush with the professional art scene. This later led to his first professional showing at Murillo Studios which led on into the art career he has today. National hosts of his work include The World Monuments Fund Gallery in New York City, The Lyndon B. Johnson Department of Education Building in Washington D.C.
Tripoli attributes much of his success to being willing to put himself out there. His advice to aspiring artists is "Be fearless, don't take no for an aswer, be willing to work with other people, just get yourself out there and be positive"
"Final Friday is just amazing because it gets so many people together and it provides an opportunity for a lot of non-creatives to get in the mix and see exactly the kind of creative potential that Wichita has. I've visited a lot of the art scenes around the country and I'd say that Wichita has one of the best ones."
This Final Friday Tripoli's work will be on display at Reuben Saunders Gallery.
