The Wichita area features over 80 park and recreation areas, offering everything from beautiful settings for picnic lunches to pony rides for the kids. Most Wichita parks are open year-round for endless hours of family entertainment. Check out our featured parks below.

Riverside and Oak Parks

The three separate parks in the Riverside Parks System form the heart of the Wichita Parks. The tree-filled parks hug the Little Arkansas River as it winds through the historic Riverside and Midtown neighborhoods.

Central Riverside Park, features a wildlife exhibit, playgrounds, splash park, gazebo, and an open-air stage where you can catch a performance of Shakespeare in the Park during summer months.

South Riverside Park has a boat ramp for access to the river and tennis courts.

Beautiful and historic Park Villa can be found in North Riverside Park, as well as many picnic tables near the river.

Oak Park, just north of North Riverside Park, features walking trails through tree-filled areas, water features, and a disc-golf course.

Sedgwick County Park

Located near the Sedgwick County Zoo in west Wichita, this park is a favorite of runners, dog-walkers, fishers, and families with kids!

Picnic benches, grills, shelters and gazebos make the park a great location for cookouts or picnics.  Several playgrounds are located throughout the park's extensive grounds, small lake allows for fishing and swimming at a sandy beach.   Paved trails throughout the park are perfect for bikers, walkers, and runners alike!

O.J. Watson Park

This area has been landscaped and developed to provide a "water park" with fishing and boating facilities, picnic areas, hayrack rides, campfire circle and playground areas. The lake is stocked every other week with 850 pounds of channel catfish to ensure good fishing throughout the summer.

WINTER HOURS: November 1 through March 16
8:00 am - 4:00 pm daily - closed on holidays
Rides will not operate  until spring hours begin.

SUMMER HOURS March 17 through September 30
8:00 am - 10 pm daily
Rides will operate 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm weekdays
Rides will operate noon to 8 pm on weekends

FALL HOURS: October 1 - 31
8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday
8:00 am - 10:00 pm Saturday and Sunday
Miniature golf, train, pony rides and pedal boats will be operated from Noon until dark on weekends only.

Herman Hill Park

A wooded park on the banks of the Arkansas River in South Wichita. Herman Hill features a children's play area, an 18-hole disc golf course, a neighborhood police substation and a water treatment demonstration project.
