Baseball games may become a safer environment for fans, as safety recommendations have been issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball to all 30 major league clubs. These recommendations serve to enhance safety for fans attending Major League games without inhibiting the interactive aspects that are essential to the fans’ experience.
The safety recommendations focus on a few key precautions.
Clubs are to provide a protective barrier to shield field-level seats within 70 feet from home plate and seats between the near ends of the dugouts from foul balls. A consultant specializing in protective netting and stadium architecture will be available to assist clubs in implementing this safety recommendation.
In addition to the existing warnings fans receive regarding batted balls and other equipment entering the stands and the importance of being aware of the action on the field, the recommendations also ask that clubs actively explore ways to further educate their fans on potential dangers.
