This Saturday from 1-4 p.m., celebrate the importance of family fun and outdoor activities at O.J Watson Park’s Wichita Play Day! The free event is being held to raise awareness of the important role that spending time outdoors plays in health and wellness.
“The lives of both kids and adults have become more hectic and over-scheduled, and the use of play reduces the amount of stress and anxiety. By having park events like the Wichita Play Day!, we are reminding people that it is important for families to be involved in fun outdoor activities that keep them moving, and Park & Recreation wants to be the premier playmakers to promote health, well-being and fun,” Director of Parks and Recreation Troy Houtman said.
According to a study from the American academy of Pediatrics, the amount of time a child spends outside is half of what it was 20 years ago. On behalf of the Park and Recreation’s ongoing health and wellness effort, Houtman hopes to change this statistic and make play a priority with the return of Wichita Play Day! at O.J. Watson Park.
