Wichita area QuikTrip locations will see millions of dollars worth of improvement in 2016 and beyond, as the Tulsa-based corporation plans to upgrade to what they’re calling “Gen-3 replacement stores” in as many locations as possible.
While the existing stores are to be replaced, the company is also considering building new stores in new locations, according to a QuikTrip spokesman.
The Gen-3 stores offer more benefits than their older store counterpart. At 5,700 square feet, the Gen- 3 locations offer much more space than the old store’s approximately 4,000 square foot design. In addition to being both newer and larger, it also boasts more food and drink options.
Using a process that the company calls “scrape and build,” QT has been able to incrementally add Gen-3 stores around the area. The process calls for the closing of an existing location to build a new Gen-3 in close proximity to the previous store. Upon completion of the Gen-3, the old store is demolished.
So far, 11 of the Wichita area’s 39 QuikTrip locations have been upgraded to Gen-3 locations, and construction on two more is expected to begin soon.
Work is scheduled to begin next week at 3933 W. 13th Street North, near the intersection of 13th and West. This project should be completed by late May.
7120 W. 21st Street North will also gain a Gen-3 replacement store. This project is expected to begin in January and conclude by September.
Several locations that have not yet been upgraded to a Gen-3 store have added a QT Kitchen, which offers customers made to order food and drink choices.
