It’s a crazy-good story. The Eli Young Band—four musicians who met during their college days in Texas—is now 11 years into a career built on touring without a single lineup change. That dedication is paying off big-time as the band enjoys a crazy new level of success. They sell a crazy amount of tickets. Get a crazy amount of airplay. Jason Boland & the Stragglers at The Cotillion
CotillionDate:

Jason Boland & the Stragglers 8pm Friday, February 24. Doors open at 7pm. Advance tickets on sale for $15. Tickets on the day of the show are $18. Tickets available at The Cotillion, 316-722-4201, thecotillion.com and the employee clubs. No service fees for tickets purchased at The Cotillion open 8a-6p Mon- Sat.
All seating is general admission. Table & chair seating around an open floor. Table reservations for groups of 4 or more are available for an additional charge by calling 316-722-4201.
In a recent commercial-country star’s genre-defining song, the act of singing about Jesus, tractors and little towns is portrayed as an unfashionable act that runs counter to the current of societal norms. Rebellion is drinking a cold one, getting a little loud, although it’s never mentioned what the country folk are getting loud about. Country music seems to be an increasingly neutered genre, where nothing at all is said, where a hit song that welcomes a world where a black man could become president was seen as a bridge too far by some. Contrast that discomfort with the bravery of an artist like Merle Haggard producing a song like “Irma Jackson” in the late 1960s. That The Hag is name-checked by so many current country stars as an influence is ironic, given that the bravery exhibited in this one song is greater than the combined bravery of every artist currently on the country chart.

"It's a dirt road, a fishin' pole, a cold beer sittin on a tailgate, an old church, a kind word, it's where I was born and raised, Heaven Ain't That Far Away."
The lyrics from Justin's song, "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away," typifies his philosophy on life. In his music and in his life, Justin embodies the soul and character of a kid from a small town.
Justin was born in Poyen Arkansas, population 272 where he'd was raised by his parents, Tommy Ray and Charlene Moore, on the family's 100 acres of land. One would have to go to Poyen to really get a sense of just how "small town" it is. There are no street lights, mostly dirt roads, a florist in an old trailer and one filling station; however, as Justin sings in his single, "Small Town USA," it's where "everybody knows me and I know them and that's the way I believe we were supposed to live." Listening to the lyrics, you know Justin's music is from the heart and that he wouldn't want to have been raised anywhere else.

Aranda with Taddy Porter plus Livy High and Taddy Porter at The Cotillion
CotillionDate:

Tickets available at The Cotillion, 316-722-4201, thecotillion.com and the employee clubs. No service fees for tickets purchased at The Cotillion open 8a-6p Mon- Sat.
Aranda is an experience. The wall-shaking Oklahoma brothers are no strangers to the music scene. Dameon and Gabe Aranda have been writing, singing, and performing together for over a decade, learning from the likes of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Jimi Hendrix.
Through strong dedication and friendly rivalry, Gabe and Dameon perfected their onstage presence. "We made each other better by having that competitive spirit," Gabe says. "We don't think about who's the better singer. We think about who is going to sound better on this part, whether this song is screaming for a wailer, a rock singer, or a more soulful voice."
Guitarist Dameon says that every time he learned a few new chords, he would use them to write a song. "We want to go out there with high energy, keep rocking, keep everybody entertained. We want to involve our audience and make it fun," he says. "Our hope is that you'll keep coming back for more."

Kevin Fowler 8pm Saturday, March 10. Doors open at 7pm. Advance tickets on sale 12/23 for $15. Tickets on the day of the show are $18. All seating is general admission. Table & chair seating around an open floor. Table reservations for groups of 4 or more are available for an additional charge by calling 316-722-4201.
Ask Kevin Fowler how’d he’d describe his own music and he doesn’t think twice before responding: “It’s country with a bad attitude. It’s country with an edge. It’s just beer-drinkin’, hell-raisin’, good-time music.”
And anyone who’s ever been to a Kevin Fowler show knows he does far more than just talk the talk—the man delivers one of the most entertaining, high-energy performances you’re likely to see in country or any other genre, with a hard-ticket base that rivals many gold-selling artists. A blend of in-your-face rockin’ intensity, tongue-in-cheek humor and captivating country storytelling, Kevin’s music has his standing-room-only audiences hanging on every word . . . and singing right along with him. Whether it’s “Beer, Bait and Ammo,” “Cheaper to Keep Her,” “The Best Mistake I Ever Made,” “Don’t Touch My Willie” or any of the other unforgettable tunes that have seen him regularly perched atop the Texas music charts, Kevin’s music is the product of years spent perfecting his craft.
And he’s not the only beneficiary. Other artists, like Montgomery Gentry (“Long Line of Losers”), Mark Chesnutt (“The Lord Loves a Drinkin’ Man”) and George Jones (dueting with Kevin on “Me and the Boys”), are among those who have recorded classic versions of Fowler songs.

Since their beginnings in the Kansas heartland a decade ago, guitarist Aaron Moreland and vocalist/harpist Dustin Arbuckle have captured the visceral spirit of the early 20th century Delta blues and the raw energy of post-World War II urban blues and distilled it all into a hard-driving and powerful garage-rock configuration of guitar, vocals, harp and drums.
Moreland & Arbuckle build on that solid foundation with the August 23, 2011, release of Just A Dream, their second album on Telarc International, a division of Concord Music Group. The 12-song set showcases Moreland's dynamic and compelling guitar work – two tracks were recorded on his cigar-box guitar consisting of three guitar strings and one bass string – Arbuckle's emotionally charged vocals and edgy harp, and drummer Brad Horner's rock-solid backbeat. Just A Dream adds a few layers of sophistication to the rootsy sensibility previously captured in the band's acclaimed 2010 Telarc debut, Flood.

The epic quest of finding one’s identity might be one of the most universal themes found in the pursuit of art. The hopeless wandering replaced by the hope-filled breakthrough has been chronicled time and again in painting, sculpture, prose, poetry, film and, certainly, music.
The men who make up the rock band RED have been through those trials themselves. They’ve taken those experiences to heart, mixed them with a plethora of influences – be they observations on art they admire, or communications with fans they adore – and now burst forth with a dynamic new set of songs geared toward finding who we truly are, inside and out.
The time is now for Until We Have Faces.
“We had the title before anything else,” says RED bassist Randy Armstrong. “And we didn’t set out to make a concept record. But as I sat and listened back to the final record, it’s amazing how much of the content, pretty much unintentionally, deals directly with the title of the record. From start to finish, it’s about all the emotions people go through trying to find their identity.”
It takes some doing to meld divergent inspirational resources as author C.S. Lewis with the stylings of Sevendust and Slipknot. But that’s exactly what RED has done with Until We Have Faces – merge those ideas that inspire with experiences that inform, and craft face-meltingly driving tracks as the end result.
From the out-of-the gate relentlessness of “Feed The Machine” and “Faceless” through the roller coaster of emotion of the song cycle of “Let It Burn,” “Buried Beneath” and “Not Alone,” to the hope and comfort (even in the midst of mourning) of “Best Is Yet To Come” and “Hymn For The Missing,” RED compels the listener to walk through the fire of confusion and pain to emerge confident and strong in their identities.
