2016 Summer Camps

It's that time of year again. The kids are home for summer, but not for long! Wichita has a variety of great summer camp options to check out! Take a look below. 

2016 Summer Camps

Summer Camps in Town

Day Camps 

Exploration Place

  • Day Camps, Grades 7-12
    For grades 7-12, Exploration Place will host a variety of summer camps including Energy Town from June 13-17, Battle Bots from June 27-July 1, Hack Your Hand Bag! Fashion Technology from July 18-22, Girls Only! Phone Photography from July 25-29 and Fantastic Layered Images from August 1-5. These camps cost $125 for members and $140 for nonmembers.
  • Half Day or Full Day Combo Camps, Grades 7-12
    These camps allow students to break up the days by spending the mornings in a computer class and the afternoons in a hands-on camp! Camps available in this section are Coding Craze from June 13-17, Gamers! From June 20-24, Photo Fun from June 17-July 1, Game Code from July 11-15 and Girls Only! Gamer Girls from August 8-12. Computer classes will run from 9 a.m. until noon, and afternoon camps will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. These camps cost $125 each for members and $150 each for nonmembers.
  • Day Camps, Grades 1-6
    For grades 1-6, Exploration will also offer a variety of day camps including Water, Water Everywhere from June 13-17, Storm the Castle from June 20-24, Amazing Astronauts from June 27-July 1, Bang, Pop, Fizz! From July 11-15, Paleo Party from July 18-22, TinkerTech: Circuits from July 25-29, Gross Out from August 1-5 and Science Super Heroes from August 8-12.
  • Preschool Summer Edventures, age four through entering Kindergarten
    Preschool Summer Edventures run Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This section offer classes for children ages four through entering kindergarten, and offers classes like Build it! Engineering and Construction, Dig It! Dirt and Dinosaurs, and Splash It! Wonderful, Wet Water. These camps cost $45 each for members and $55 each for nonmembers. Drop off begins at 9:15 a.m. Pick up no later than 11:15 a.m.

    Exploration Place camps run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Before care beginning at 7:30 a.m. and after care running until 6 p.m. will be available for $15 each. For more on Exploration Place camps, click here.

Wichita Art Museum

  • Hot Art For Cool Kids: It’s Cool, Yo
    This are afternoon camp is for ages 6-12, and is broken up into sections based on age. Camp will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesdays for students ages  six to eight, and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays for ages 9-12. These classes will run through June and July, and the cost per class is $6. Learn more here.
  • Art Start Goes to Camp
    Art Start Goes to Camp is for ages three to five. Focusing on performance and visual arts, this camp offers two sessions on Tuesdays, one beginning at 10 a.m. and the other at 1:30 p.m. Each child must be accompanied by an adult, and the cost per child is $5. Details are available here

Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis

  • GFFT Junior Tennis Summer Camps
    The Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis junior tennis summer camps to beginners between the ages of six and 15. This camp will highlight introductory tennis lessons taught by tennis professionals from the Genesis Health Club. Children can learn the sport for the first time at this camp for new players only. Sedgwick County Zoo

  • Creature Camp Out
    On June 25, The Sedgwick County Zoo will host a Creature Camp Out from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 a.m. Featuring a theme of Green and Growing, campers will learn a lot about plants. The Creature Camp out includes dinner, activities, a guided tour, an animal encounter and a bedtime snack. In the morning there will be a continental breakfast and a 9:30 a.m. tram ride. This camp is for all ages, and it's great for a night of family fun! Campers should be sure to bring their own tents and sleeping bags. Creature Camp Out costs $35 per person for members and $35 per person for nonmembers. To register, click here.

Christian Youth Theatre

  • Music Theatre Camps
    Christian Youth Theatre will offer a variety of summer camp options for ages 5-18. Focusing on Music Theatre, these camps will teach students about, and allow them to experience the fine arts. For ages 13-18, camp will be held from July 11-15 at the east camp, in the  First Evangelical Free Church at 1825 N. Woodlawn.  Childrens' camps, for ages five to 12 will be offered at two locations. The west location, at the West Evangelical Free Church at 1161 N. Maize will host childrens' camp from July 18-22, and the east side childrens' camp will run from July 25-29 at the Eastminster Presbyterian Church at1958 N. Webb Rd. Get further details here.

The Independent School

  • Education and Enrichment courses
    The Independent School offers over 100 summer courses for children ages PreK through 12th grade. Whether you're looking for educational classes like coding, Spanish, writing or science, or for enrichment classes like music, theatre, sports or Pinterest crafts, the Independent School has got it an tons more. Wichita Collegiate School

  • Summer Explorations
    Wichita Collegiate School hosts Summer Explorations, which features over 200 classes for ages two to adults. Summer Explorations offers courses for every interest and ability, and with so many options, the courses are easy to work into almost any schedule. Summer explorations offers classes for credit, enrichment, and fun! Whether you're taking dance, cooking, music, driver's education or another class, it's sure to be a great time. Summer Explorations offers courses from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, but class times and prices vary. Wichita Collegiate School is locate at 13th and Webb Rd. View the Summer Explorations catalog.  

Trinity Academy

  • K-8 Summer Camps
    Trinity Academy offers K-8 summer camps for basketball, soccer, cross country, baseball, football, pottery, cooking, theatre, music, Spanish and more. Times and prices vary by course. Learn more here.

Wichita Friends School

  • Camps for ages 3-10
    The Wichita Friends School is offering summer camps for ages 3-10 spread over 10 weeks. Each week will highlight a new theme, and many themes will involve area attractions like Tanganyika and Exploration Place. Students can attend all 10 weeks of camp or select the weeks during which they would like to participate. Camp hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., but half day options are also available. Center for the Arts

  • STEAM Camps ages 6-11
    The Center for the Arts will host summer camps for ages 6-11 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through August 5. The camps will highlight STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics). Cost for a week-long camp it $110 for members and $120 for nonmembers. Details available here.

CityArts

  • Camp for ages 6-16
    Ages 6-16 can enjoy weekly summer camp at CityArts through August  12. The camp will highlight the culture of the American Indians, early settlers and America's National Parks. Tuition is $165 per camper per week. Capmers should bring sack lunches daily, and should also bring a swimsuit and towel on Mondays. CityArts is located at 334 N. Mead Street. 

Monart School of Art

  • Art Camps for ages 3-adult
    The Monart School of art will offer summer classes through August 19 for ages three to adult. The camps will teach students to use the patented Monart Drawing Method. They'll also learn about famous artists, world cultures, new media, and even the animal kingdom! Camps will be held at the Art Park located at 7230 E. 29th. For more information, call 683-2500.

Music Together of Wichita

  • Music Camps for Newborns-5
    Music camps will be available for children from newborns to age 5 through Music Together Wichita. Camps will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays between June 13 and July 18 at the Art Park.  The award-winning international music program will allow children to sing, dance to finger plays, play instruments and more! Six week sessions cost $113, and make-up classes will be available. If you're interested, you can also find a free demo class.

School of Rock

  • Music Camp
    The Wichita School of Rock will offer camps for ages 7-17 through August 5. Students will learn about performance, band bonding, music and instruments. If your kids are ready to rock out, his is a great summer camp option. Camps run for five days each, and all skill levels are welcome. School of Rock is located at 1218 S. Rock Road. Valor Martial Arts

  • Martial Arts Camp
    Children ages 5-12 taking the Valor Martial Arts summer camp will learn to deter bullies with verbal assertiveness, and they'll multiple nonviolent defenses to use if attacked. Build unshakable confidence and good character in your child by enrolling in this camp. The Valor Martial Arts camp runs from June 13-17 and again from July 18-22. Valor Martial Arts is located at 1836 S. Woodlawn. Type of Camp. For further details, call 260-6595.

Wichita Gymnastics

  • Gymnastics Camp
    Ages 3-12 will gave a blast at the Wichita Gymnastics summer camp which runs through August 11. With 12,000 square feet and the latest gymnastics and recreational equipment, the campers are kept moving! Campers will enjoy swimming, games and arts and crafts in addition to gymnastics! Happy Feet Soccer

  • Soccer Camp
    Happy Feet Soccer Camp offers a kid friendly curriculum for children ages four to six. Legends Soccer Camp is also available for ages 7-16. Each of these courses will teach skills that are appropriate for the age and skill levels of the students. Click here to learn more.  

Wichita Swim Club

  • Swim Club Camp
    The Wichita Swim Club will offer 4 sessions per week through August 11, for ages six months to adults. Offering lessons at the City of Wichita pools this summer, the Wichita Swim Club summer sessions feature certified Swim America coaches and a low swimmer-to-coach ratio.

Kansas Dance Association

  • Dance Camp for ages 3-6
    From July 11-14, a beginners dance class will be offered through the Kansas Dance Association. The class is intended for ages 3-6, and will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily. No experience is necessary. Camp will include dance class, snacks, crafts, music and more. There is a $100 camp fee. Learn more.

Models and Images

  • Modeling Courses
    Models and Images offers a variety of abbreviated, week-long courses during the summer. Ages four and up can get involved in classes which run through July 28. Classes are held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., and fashion shows for each lass will be held at 12:30 P.M. on the Thursday of the class. Models and Images is located at 6130 E. Central. Newspring Church

  • MyLIFE
    MyLIFE is a 3-day camp for high schoolers offered by Newspring Church. Over the three days, students will come together and watch their faith grow. The camp will highlight small groups, main sessions, activities and events around Wichita. The camp will run July 20-22 from noon to 11 p.m. daily. The MyLIFE camp costs $139.

YMCA

  • Half Day Camp
    YMCA half day camps are for children who have completed kindergarten through age 12. Running from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, the camps will be held at the West YMCA. Each of the camp's 10 weeks features a different theme. The cost is $70 for members and $90 for nonmembers. Learn more here.
  • Kiddie Camps
    Kiddie camps run for 1-11 weeks and are intended for ages four and five.  Kiddie camps are filled with fun activities that kids will enjoy. Camps cost $145 per week. These camps are available through the Andover YMCA, the East YMCA and the South YMCA.

Overnight Camps

  • Adventure Camps - 
    At YMCA Adventure Camps, kids can try new activities, explore nature, gain independence, and make lasting memories. These camps last 1-12 weeks depending on location, and each week offers a brand new theme! Campers will enjoy regular activities like arts & crafts, swimming, special events, guest speakers,  sports, cookouts and character challenges. Some adventure camps even offer activity clubs of weekly field trips! Adventure camps with activity clubs are available at Andover & Northwest YMCAs, and adventure camps with field trips are available at East, El Dorado, & South YMCAs, as well as the Valley Center location. These caps are for children who have completed kindergarten through age 12. Adventure camps cost $119 per week for YMCA members and  $139 per week for community participants.

 Day Camps

Derby Recreation Center (Derby)

  • Graham's Shooting Stars Basketball Camp
    Shooting Stars Pro Basketball Camp will take place at the Derby Recreation center on June 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. This elite NBA style camp is for basketball players who are serious about improving their skills, and the camp is instructed by former NBA player Joey Graham! Players will be evaluated and will learn what it takes to become well-rounded basketball players. Graham's Shooting Stars camp is for ages 7-17, and the registration deadline is June 15.  Registration costs $50.

Oaklawn Activity Center

  • Summer Fun Camp (Oaklawn)
    The Oaklawn Activity Center will host a summer fun camp for grades K-5 on July 5-8. The camp will feature sports, movies, games, arts & crafts and more! Summer fun camp will run from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and children attending will need to bring a sack lunch each day. The cost is $19 per day, and scholarships are available. 

The Cosmosphere (Hutchinson)

  • Solar System
    Solar System camp is intended for students entering second or third grade. Students attending this camp will learn about teamwork, space travel, and other science activities. The camp will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on July 11-15, and tuition is $119.
  • Lunar Base
    Lunar Base camp will also take place July 11-15, but will take place from 9 a.m. until noon. Campers will work in teams to create a lunar colony and discover challenges of living on the moon. Tuition is $119.

The Wichita Riding Academy (Derby)

  • Horse Riding Camp
    Learn to ride a horse at the Wichita Riding Academy's horse riding camp! Running from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20-24, this camp is appropriate for all ages. Tuition is $180 per week.
  • Farm Camp
    All ages are invited to come learn about farm life at the Wichita Riding Academy's farm camp from July 25 to 29. Camp will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tuition is $100 per week. 
  • Trail camps
    The Wichita Riding Academy will offer trail camps by age group, with a camp for ages 8-12 on June 13-17, ages eight and up on July 25-29, and ages 10 and up on July 18-22. Trail camps will also run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Tuition is $180 per week,

 YMCA

  • Family Day Camp at Camp Hyde (Viola)
    Camp Hyde's family day camp offers fun for the whole family activities like the 50ft Alpine Tower, Wet Willie Slide, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, and swimming. This camp will be held on July 30 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Family day camp costs $30 per family for YMCA members, or $50 per family for community participants.

Overnight Camps

The Cosmosphere

  • Alien Adventure
    Intended for students entering the fourth or fifth grade, Alien Adventure camp will will occur twice, from June 13-15, and again from July 18-20. This three day camp will feature one overnight stay, and will allow campers to decode alien messages, explore possibilities of environments beyond Earth, and even create their own alien life form! Tuition is $169.
  • Starship Earth
    Starship Earth is a four day camp with one overnight stay. Running from June 28 through July 1, and again from July 26-29, this camp highlights how humans survive in space. Students entering fifth or sixth grade will visit the Dillon Nature Center, green houses, and/or the waste facility, and they'll even get to construct a solar water heater! Tuition is $199.
  • Mars Academy (3 days)
    Students entering sixth or seventh grade have four opportunities to attend Mars Academy, as the camp will run from June 10-12, June 24-26, July 8-10 (all girls), and July 22-24. Here, campers will prepare for a journey into mars! Build robotic sensor platforms, construct a power grid and more at Mars Academy. Tuition is $249.
  • Merits of Space (5 days)
    This scout camp runs from July 26-30. Campers will be able to earn Space Exploration, Engineering, Robotics, Aviation, and Astronomy badges at the Merits of Space camp. They'll also get to train to live and work in space by using a stress simulator, centrifuge and multi-axis trainer! Tuition is $549.
  • Space 101 (5 days)
    There are five Space 101 camps to enroll in this summer, from June 7-11, June 14-18 (all girls), June 21-15, July 5-9, and July 19-23. This camp is for students entering grades 7 or 8, and highlights the critical roles of both astronauts and mission controllers. Campers will even get to take a ride on the Falcon III Spacecraft Simulator. Tuition is $549.

YMCA Camp Hyde

  • Family Camp Out (overnight) 
    Enjoy a getaway for the whole family at YMCA Camp Hyde's family camp out. Bring a tent and you sleeping bags and be ready to have a great time. Campers will enjoy activities like the Wet Willie Slide, canoeing, games, the 50ft Alpine Tower, s’mores, horseback riding, swimming and a family movie. Camp begins at 7 p.m. on June 24 and runs until 4 p.m. on June 25, and costs $45 per family for YMCA members and $65 per family for community participants. For details, click here.
  • Frontier Horse Camp (2-10 Weeks)
    YMCA Camp Hyde will offer Frontier Horse Camp for ages 7-12 this summer. The camp runs for 2-10 weeks, and just like adventure camp, each week will have a new theme.  Frontier Horse Camp costs $189 per week for YMCA members and $209 per week for community participants. Please note that Frontier Camp requires an additional $50 week deposit, and additional fees may apply for transportation to Camp Hyde.
