The American Diabetes Association has one mission... To prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all those affected by diabetes. Our Kansas Area office serves most of the state of Kansas, minus the Topeka and Kansas City Area. 24 million Americans have diabetes and 57 million that have pre-diabetes. There are 151,000 Kansans with diabetes. All money raised here in Kansas, stays here.
We have several resources for our Kansas community. We have programs like School Walks for Diabetes and summer camps for our kids to learn more about managing their diabetes (and have a great time being a kid)! We also have advocacy programs, like Safe in Schools. We raise awareness with health fairs, "Winning at Work" and brown bag lunches. We have a library here with books and journals that are free to the public as well. Money raised also goes to research programs.
We have some great events happening this year as well! Our Tour de Cure bicycle ride is coming up on May 30th. Cyclists of all levels are welcome to attend. Our BAD Ride (Bikers Against Diabetes) is a motorcycle rally at Alefs Harley Davidson August 22nd. Our Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is coming up on October 10th at Sedgwick County Zoo.
We are always looking for people to get involved with the ADA, whether it is volunteering on a committee/event or participating in one of our events. The more people we have behind us, the more likely we will fulfill our mission!
