The Story: "Sleeping Beauty" takes its audience on a magical journey to an enchanted kingdom where good conquers evil with a single kiss. A wicked curse by the evil fairy threatens Sleeping Beauty and her family. Only the protective magic of her fairy godmother will keep her safe until she is awakened by a Prince’s kiss.

The Production: This beloved full-length story ballet, performed by the Russian National Ballet Theatre, is an incomparable and seamless blending of musical and choreographic invention, combining stagecraft on a grand scale and dancing of breathtaking virtuosity with the intimacy and simplicity of the famous fairy tale on which it is based. Now in its 15th year, Wichita Grand Opera’s annual Opera Ball has become one of the premiere social events in the region, and WGO’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This year’s Ball, the Wichita Grand Opera Champagne Ball, taking shape under the leadership of Opera Ball Committee Chairs Georges and Jocelyne Ausseil and Honorary Chairs Tony Caputo and LewJene Schneider, will start at 6:00pm on Saturday, May 6, at the Wichita Hyatt Regency.

Past Opera Balls have hosted luminaries ranging from international opera stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and Samuel Ramey, to public figures such as General Richard Myers, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Governor Sam Brownback. In addition to a reputation for outstanding entertainment and luxurious dining, the Opera Ball is known for its exciting live auction, which in the past has featured exclusive items, such as trips to attend the Golden Globes and the Porsche Racing School, private dinners with stars of the Metropolitan Opera, travel destinations all over the world, and exquisite custom-designed jewelry, all auctioned off in support of the WGO and its many programs.
