Gustav Wolff: An Impressionist Eye for New York

Time: All Day Event
Date: Active through
Location: Wichita Art Museum
Category: Arts ⁄ Exhibits
This large-scale exhibition of a remarkable recently-discovered trove of Gustav Wolff's 19th and early 20th century urban cityscapes is exclusively scheduled for the Wichita Art Museum. Gustav Wolff (1863-1935) was a German-born artist of tremendous depth and range, creating scenes of poetic beauty based on the landscapes around New York City. These forty paintings capture light and dark atmosphere while remaining true to the artist’s love of nature. His ability to see the metaphysical in the mundane captured impressionist views ranging from the gritty docks of downtown Manhattan to the pastoral scenes of the city’s parks. The exhibition was organized courtesy of Hawthorne Fine Art, New York.

Ed Davison: Recent Acquisitions

Time: All Day Event
Date: Active through
Location: Wichita Art Museum
Category: Arts ⁄ Exhibits
Ed Davison was among the most talented and accomplished Kansas artists. Though Ed inherited his father's bank in Wichita, painting was his true avocation. After studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, and later with Birger Sandzén, Davison exhibited in major exhibitions across the country, often winning awards. When Ed's wife Faye died in 1968, she left ten of his paintings to the Museum. This exhibition celebrates the recent acquisition of four new Davison paintings by showing them in the context of the family donation. Three of the new paintings were generously donated by George Vollmer. The fourth had long been in the possession of the McEwen family.
